Fencing is a fast, tactical and highly dynamic sport. At its highest level it requires athletes to be athletic and highly strategic – every opponent brings new challenges.
Fencing is a modern and technical sport, with advanced electronic scoring systems that make it easy for spectators to see who has landed a hit. But it is also steeped in history with the first documented fencing rules being written in the mid-1400s. Fencing is also one of three sports that have appeared in every modern Olympic Games since 1896.
Fencing has three disciplines: Foil, Epee & Sabre, each with different rules and target areas. Some videos showing highlights of the different weapons being fought at this year World Championships are below.
